Most cinema movies are produced in the capital region. This is the result of the new producer study by the Hamburg Media School. With 7653 shooting minutes in Berlin, the film location is far ahead of other German film locations, in addition to the production volume of Studio Babelsberg and UFA based in Brandenburg - the next location is Bavaria with 4326 shooting minutes. Furthermore, Berlin is still well ahead of Munich, Hamburg and Cologne in the most important location factors such as staff availability and costs, rent and standard of living. The capital region is also unbeatable in terms of locations, internationality and links to other cultural and creative industries. Medienboard Managing Director Kirsten Niehuus: „The capital region offers a complete package from an almost inexhaustible spectrum of film locations, stories and a cosmopolitan and film-friendly metropolis".
In addition to the uninterrupted high shooting volume for cinema movies, the number of series is increasing significantly. „Babylon Berlin", „Berlin Station", „Dogs of Berlin", „Beat", „4 Blocks", „Dark", „You are Wanted" - all are playing in and around Berlin, that means about 100 shooting days per series. The new study also proves that the capital region is very popular by viewers: in 2017, the Medienboard-sponsored mammoth project „Babylon Berlin" was one of the most viewed productions on the platform Sky in the offering of all international content.
